A contractor friend of mine, a devout Christian, bought VIP seats for seven of his friends to go see Phil Keaggy and Fernando Ortega at a local church. We were in the second row of a very nice concert hall in a brand new church. The stage setting was very simple and intimate.
I was a little concerned that this might be an entre into a path to my salvation, but I had heard good things about these performers, so I went to the concert anyway.
I have to say I enjoyed it immensely. The music was very uplifting, although I'm not connected at all to the lyrics, and there was a nice contrast between the styles of the two performers. In all, an excellent concert.
Don't worry, though. I left with my heathenism intact.

I went to a cousin's funeral and when I walked int he door I looked down at myself and proclaimed amazement that I hadn't burst into flames. My cousin's fiancé and the preacher weren't terribly amused. Wait, did I say funeral? I doubt they'd find that funny either.
Nothing wrong with enjoying music at a church. The church my parents used to drag me to had a pipe organ and a musical director who was a huge baroque nut. Before the services he'd start playing amazing pieces (meaning once the service started I was ready to leave!)

I'll even go into a Catholic church to hear one (my wife is Catholic). When the service starts, I think about TalkBass.
