Question Music for a 60's style birthday party

Sign in to disble this ad
My band is playing at my mothers 50th birthday party and its 60's style so you have to dress like the 60's.

So please give me suggestions for great cover songs to play to get the house on fire. I will take any music from any decade as long its a great party music for people in the age group of 40 to 70 year olds.

thanks

Throw in the ultimate 60's surf tunes, Wipeout and Pipeline.

Devil With The Blue Dress On/Good Golly Miss Molly was a
great Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels arrangement.

No 60's bash is complete without these two: Hey Joe
and Louie Louie.

Hey Man-- Though I don't know what your band's instrument&vocal capabilities are, these tunes should work for you. They all should bring back memories for most/all party members and, IMO, they should get the shy one's toes tappin' and the wild ones butts shakin'!

Footstompin' Music, The Locomotion - Grand Funk Railroad **
Ice Cream Man, Dancing In The Street - Van Halen **
Midnight Rambler, Brown Sugar, Let It Bleed, Gimme Shelter - Rolling Stones
Lola - The Kinks
Layla - Derek and the Dominos
Go All The Way - Raspberries
Psychotic Reaction - Count Five
Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress - Hollies
Spill The Wine - Eric Burdon & War
Cut The Cake, Pick Up The Pieces - Average White Band
Play That Funky Music - Wild Cherry
I'll Take You There - The staple Singers
Brick House - Commodores
Sex Machine - James Brown
I Ain't Superstitious - Rod Stewart **
20th Century Boy - T. Rex
I Wanna Be Sedated - The Ramones
Back Off Boogaloo - Ringo Starr
Mony Mony - Tommy James &The Shondells
Jailhouse Rock - ZZ Top **
Lawdy Miss Clawdy - Elvis Presley **
Rocking Pneumonia & the Boogie Woogie Flu - Johnny Rivers **
Love Potion No. 9 - The Searchers **
The Train Kept A-Rollin' - Aerosmith **
I Want You To Want Me, Surrender, Ain't That A Shame - Cheap Trick **

(** Yeah I know, but these are my favorite versions).

Hang on Snoopy.

It's actually a very good stereo-type pop song, and bonus points to those who know who the young guitar player was on this track.

Piece of cake-
Rick Derringer...with, IIRC, his brother on drums. Was Randy Jo Hobbs the bassist in the McCoys? Eventually these guys hooked up with Johnny Winter & became Johnny Winter And.

The McCoys hit was actually titled 'Hang on Sloopy'. It was originally titled 'My Girl Sloopy'.

Derringer really blew away the Top 40 pop sound away by shredding a super solo on that cut. Good work.

Yeah, though the OP said he "...will take any music from any decade...". Also, several of those 70s tunes on that list are 50s/60s remakes anyway.

Sorry, reminds me not to post entries 5am in the morning.

Wikipedia has an interesting background story on who Sloopy really was:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hang_on_Sloopy

Amazing solo and guitar work, especially as Rick Derringer was 16 at that time.
