Music Colleges. Thoughts?

Hey I've been searching on the internet for student/alumni reviews of contemporary music colleges but find them hard to come by.

I'm talking about places like Berklee in Boston, McNally Smith in MN, Musicians Institute in LA and those kinds of places.

I'm already neck deep in regular college but I always found these schools appealing, although suspicious. They seem like a great way to really hone your chops and get some good skills but at the same time I feel like they are an overpriced education for an underpaid job.

Thoughts? Experiences?

Skip them. The best way to hone your chops is to form a band with people better than you.

Go to UMaine in Augusta because it's CHEAP but you can really learn a lot of decent jazz stuff there. There are some great instructors. Russ actually designed Berklee's theory curriculum and used to teach there before moving to Maine and teaching at UMA.

...Anyone for a Berklee education at like 1/10th the cost? It isn't the best school but it's good if $ is an issue and you don't need/want to be babysat muscially.

I think im going to be attending MI (Musicians Institute) for Instrument Craft... god i wanna go, know so many great, great people that came from that school but most of them are in the metal scene and cant really find work. There really is an amazing abundance of incredible musicians in LA... Specifically Metal guitarists, ROFL.

You guys ever heard of the SMU Institute? (http://www.saesingapore.com)

I really want to go there next year to study Audio Enginnering.
Problem is, it's almost impossible to pull off SGD10000 a year working part time. Sigh...
