just to kind of add on to the "Bass players are versatile" topic
some great interesting points on there had me thinking..
i dont like to play music that i listen to every day,and the music i love to play i dont ever listen to outside of playing the bass!!
i love to listen to metal,punk,rock and its more or less where i started when i was learning but now days i find it boring(not exactly the right word) to play...i love to play funk,disco,acid jazz,country,but if it came on the radio i would turn it off...its not to say i i wont play metal or any of the other styles i just dont get the same kick...
when i was younger it was always the jam or the clash every thing else was s***..as i got older i got more interested in other more bass driven music(Rutger Gunnarsson changed my playing) and then working cruise ships and cover bands over years changed it again.. i was a music snob but now i listen to everything,
anybody else hate to play music they love to listen to... ????

Learning my favorite music takes the mystique out of it ...at least for me.

same boat, I play a LOT of funk, and then other stuff like blues, jazz, world music, folk bluegrass and such.

And I listen basically to Mars Volta, Mastodon and anything else that is loud and obnoxious, but I don't play these things. But one of my main reasons on that is the people I run into who are good and play that kind of stuff are out of their freakin minds. And I like to deal with sanity. Sanity=good. Insanity=fun for about 5 minutes.

I enjoy playing ALL music, but Metal and Trance I gotta say are the main things I really listen to. I've got a bit of Funk, Jazz and the likes, but listening to it just isn't like playing it.
