Music or lyrics first?

How do you usually write a song? Do you do the music first, the lyrics first or do both parts usually just come together at the same time?

lol... my friends are kinda strange...

So, the band members usually all write stuff up, they all have a song they've done most or all of the writing to, and they have a few full blown songs the entire band worked on, they are progressive metal.

So the band the the singer work seperately. The singer writes song lyrics, the band write's songs, then they mix and match till they find something they like...

This works well at the moment because, they both love to write songs all the time so, they havent run into a problem yet, they are pushing 13 songs atm, all the songs are between 7 and 11 minutes long, one new song is reaching 12 mins, their first song was 6 mins.

Seems to work rather well for them.

I write for a comedy duo, so I write the lyrics first and then we do music around it.
