music/music shops in Alexandria, VA

Hi TB folks

Will be in Alexandria, VA area for a week in March 2011, with some time to kill. Am from UK. Looking for advice re: shops to check out, places for live music or jams (pref. jazz/blues/americana/rock - not into hip hop or Lady Gaga).

Any info appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hop on the Beltway (495) and take a trip to Atomic Music in Beltsville MD. Nothing but mostly a hodge podge of used gear but it's a good place to go try gear.

You can visit the only bass specialty shop in the DC area at Jive Sound. It's in Alexandria, and the owner is cool.
