Music questions for a school project.

Hi, TB!

I have a school project that involves relating The Blues and Modern Rock music through time, and what caused the changes. I was wondering if any professionals in the music industry could answer a few questions, namely, as I need some primary sources.

1: What are some of the main similarities between the blues and rock music?

2: What was one of the important technological advances that helped the transition between blues and rock music?

I'm happy to talk to you about this; this is actually something I know a fair bit about and is a hobby of mine. Feel free to email me at dave@davemuscato.com with your specific questions and I'll see what I can do for you.

What kind of a response is that? I suppose you knew all about the relationship between blues and rock when you were in high school? Anyway, it's nice of Dave to help you out on this. Good luck.

Rock came from blues, which came from old gospel and folk, which came from church songs in the south, which came from a mix of European ballads and slave songs, which came from griots who were the African story keepers.

The electric guitar and the use of overdrive were technological advances that helped a ton in the transition, but perhaps one of the biggest things(IMHO) was the ability to record music and make it hearable(not a real word, but w/e) to listeners across the globe through the use of record players and the radio.
