Music scene in Berlin, Germany

I'm strongly considering moving to Berlin (for a variety of reasons), and I can't live without playing in some sort of band. Gigs where I am are pretty hard to get; if you are from Berlin or live there currently - what is the music scene in Berlin like? Would there be much work for a bassist?
