Music Scene in Charlotte NC?

Sign in to disble this ad
The wife and I are looking to make a move and Charlotte is on the short list.

Currently, I’m a full time musician in Dayton OH. I teach a couple of days a week, do a church gig, and sub or gig with various cover bands every weekend. What kind of transition could I expect?

Thanks!!

the only time I ever go to Charlotte is to go to GC or go to Olive Garden.

The biggest thing you will find here is the large number of church gigs. There are some pop/rock covers and some tributes, also some blues and country bands. IMO there needs to be more original stuff. Charlotte has the venues and people to support the originals. But if church gigs are your thing you can easily find something along with lessons. Seems to be a lack of teachers that knows bass in the area. Hope this helps.

Good luck on your move.

No dis to Charlotte by any means, but the major benefit to this move is that it puts you a mere 2 hours from Asheville. Once you break past the "everybody's a musician here, so people will do it for free" opportunities, there is a heavily-funded music/arts-based economy happening there. Major opportunities roll through that town.

Good luck with the move!
