The music scene in Japan

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi everyone!

I plan to be a JET next summer and I have a question that can probably only be answered by people that actually live (or have lived) in Japan. I play music, mostly electric bass, and it's pretty much a part of my daily routine. I doubt I can bring my musical equipment with me to Japan, so my question is - what are musical instrument shops like in Japan? Insanely expensive? Reasonable? I would also be interested in playing live music. What's the live music scene like in Japan? Is there much opportunity for gaijin musicians? I'd be more interested in playing with Japanese musicians than foreigners.

For anyone interested, here's a sampling of some music I've done:

Any help is appreciated; I can't imagine giving up music for a year!
