Music Software Program To Show Chord Charts

I am trying to figure out a way to associate chord charts w/lyrics to music files(computer). The idea would be this. The user would click on a song to practice and the video portion would show the lyrics and chord charts for that song. I want to get away from paper and have the added benefit of being able to share music files with the chords and lyrics with other musicians. Ideally I want to substitute a small laptop for music books on my music stand. You can probably tell by now that aside from the on button and basic computer operations I am at a significant loss.

Good idea? Bad idea? Doable? Thanks. I can do this now but have to use 2 windows...one for the song and one for the charts.

Not sure you are still interested since this thread is kind of old, but you should check out Chord Maestro. It's a brand new tool that displays chord charts and can be synchronized to any MIDI device that supports MIDI Time Code. The chord charts just need to be simple pdf files. We have been using it for several months at our church and no longer need music stands.
