Music stores/venues in Boston?

Yup, I'm going to be working in Boston for a week. I'll probably be too busy for sightseeing but for one day and I'd like to check out stores, and the scene. Any suggestions? Thanks.

As a former Boston resident, I could recommend:

Daddys Junky Music on Mass Ave (right near Berklee)

Cambridge Music (617) 426-5100

Can't say I miss that cold that goes through you like a knife.

Don't go near Daddy's. Terrible bass selection. Guitar Center, however, has a TON of really cool bass stuff. It's at 750 Commonwealth Ave.

For music venues, check out Scullers or Ryles. Wally's if you've got someone to go with you (the neighborhood can be a little rough down there sometimes). A lot of my friends play at Wally's, it's kind of the training ground for the very top Berklee and NEC cats.

come to the paradise rock club on tuesday! we're playing with zap mama!

seriously, guitar center, cambridge music and mr. music in allston have some interesting stuff. daddy's might have some ok used stuff, but...
definitely check out wally's. free music every night.

when you arrive in boston, pick up a copy of the boston phoenix www.thephoenix.com it's free and gives a detailed list of all the happenings.

edit: it's goin to be in the 50's and 40's next week. it gets cold at night.

750 Commonwealth.. I know where that is now.

Not sure I want to do any music stores. I'm more into the city itself. I'll probably do the walking tous and maybe check out the Harvard campus...

Thanks for all the tips. The Phoenix is a handy resource. Thank you.
