Hey, I was recently reading an interview with Stewart Copeland, and he mentioned something that got me thinking. He suggested that to create and find your individual sound, its best to go out of your way and become familiar with and proficient in a style of music far departed from what you are used to. Considering he grew up in Beirut he certainly had plenty of that.
I've been playing bass for about a year, and I'd say im fairly proficient in it, and am always looking for a different take on the instrument to bring to the band. Recently I've really started listening to Bakithi Kumalo, who is probably most famous for playing with Paul Simon on Graceland. That being said, do any of you guys have any suggestions for me to listen to in that vein of music? |
