I am on my forth year on my university music studies and investigating the possibilies to do an exchange term in the USA.

Is there any universiteis in the New Orleands-area that some of you have experiences of or can recommend.

Thanks in advance!

University of New Orleans music department
Tulane University music department
Loyola University music department
LSU music department (in Baton Rouge)

I don't have any experience with these schools. Just thought it'd be a start for you to gather some info.

I know that at one time, Ellis Marsalis was head of the UNO music department (I almost studied there). If that doesn't ring any bells, guys named Wynton and Branford call him "dad"....however, that information may be a bit out of date now.

Loyola has a world-class music department, but as it was a private school and not a state school, the tuition was out of my budget (I did pass the audition, but didn't do well enough to get offered a scholarship...).

Tulane is a first-class school in every possible way, I know nothing of their music school, but I would expect it to be equal to everything else they offer.

LSU is great, but Baton Rouge is 75 miles northwest of NOLA, and a good 90 minutes of driving on average from campus to downtown NOLA.

I grew up there, if you hadn't figured it out...
