Musical Audition Tips?(for singing)

Sign in to disble this ad
So there are tryouts for Fiddler on The Roof at my highschool coming up and I've decided that I want to try out. I have never ever acted before. I have no problems being on stage at all and can be quite loud. I'm not the best singer in the world but I could manage a small roll which doesn't require a huge register. Any tips for trying out? Besides making sure that my voice is "on" and stuff?

/Not sure if this should be in off topic or misc. If in wrong area pleese forgive me and move.

There'll be quite a few roles in Fiddler where you won't have to really sing, so ask teachers first with what they think.

My school did it a fair few years ago, was a really fun production.. Only one to beat it I think would be either Little Shop of Horrors or Back to the 80's.

Hows your acting skills?

In musical theatre it's often more important that a singing voice have some unique character to it than to be beautiful. The voice is one of a character's identifying traits, so it has to fit the part. Work on making yours fit the part.

+1 on this.

Check out some of the songs Rex Harrison sang in "My Fair Lady" (the man had no voice!).
Or... the song "Trouble" from The Music Man. Robert Preston had a good voice, but this song doesn't really require it.

I suggest a lovable, misfit William Hung-style audition.

14 guys tried out...there are 25 guy slots. Like 479549832 girls tried out but there are less girl slots so i think my play may have cross dressers.

Maybe you'll share a dressing room with them.
