I have to travel to Kansas City next month for business. I've heard rumors that MF has a brick and mortar clearance center in KC. Does anyone know anything about this? P@?

That's acually in my neck of the woods!

Yes we do. Its rather large but compared to Kansas music stores, I'm not sure how it would compare to others.

If I remember right its mostly where the defiective stuff goes. But sometimes if you look hard enough you'll find a GREAT deal. (Check out the effect pedals) They also are attached to the warehouse so you can ask and they'll get you something new.

Oh and its also right by a Casino so you might beable to win your money back..........

I've been there several times to look around and try stuff, but I don't think I've bought anything major yet.

Note that some of their selection is overstocked items that they're trying to clear out of, and there's also quite a bit of "blem" (i.e. scratch-and-dent) merchandise that had been returned by customers. (Guitars with a chip in finish, amps that are missing a knob, a manual, etc). It tends to be pretty hit-and-miss, you never know if you'll find something worth buying.

That's been my experience, too. I lived in Lawrence for twelve years and my friends and I have been over there several times since it opened. Last summer I wanted to see if they had any new Epifani 410's available for pickup but they didn't. Seems that the best (and most frequent) deals are on the smaller stuff.

When I worked for the EPA I was very close by and would go a couple times per month on lunch breaks.

The selection is hit or miss. There are a lot of outdated, broken beyond repair items on the floor for 10% below retail, but you also see some new "it was the wrong color" stuff for 10% below retail. And I've seen more than a couple guitars with blemishes that sell for half off of retail but sound great. You just have to take some time and look around and know what you're doing.

I certainly did - it's in the archive somewhere. A GK MB150-E112 for $200 marked down from $800, just missing the manual and power cord.

Its alright, but its musicians friend. Also, don't eat at that waffle house that is near by, or you'll get a terrible bout of diarrhea.

I go there all the time. I have never found a deal on anything in the clearance center itself. I buy my new stuff from them. They won't pull something out of the warehouse unless you are going to buy it. It does seam like everytime I get something new it's always much cheaper than what the catalog or website lists. The last time I was there they knocked $5.00 off a cable just because they felt I had waited to long for my stuff. Check it out and then get some Gates BBQ!!

Yes, Gates BBQ is a must. You are wasting your time if you go to KC and don't get BBQ.

My former drummer picked up a very cool MIM Tele special edition, goldtop with twin humbuckers, for like $200 there a few years ago.
You really had to search the guitar to find any blemish.

I visisted Kansas City this summer and BB's Lawnside BBQ was the best . I also came back the same night and saw Fast Johnny Ricker and the Riders perform. Heck of a show.
