Musicians Relief Fund??

Sign in to disble this ad
I really hate to have to ask about this but does anyone know what's going on with this relief fund that many TB'ers donated to?

http://www.helpingmusicians.org/

I've contacted the appropriate parties via PM that were mainly involved and the only Tber that responds has done all they can do and is waiting on the other one who was the main organizer.

I know we are all busy at times, but when you donate money(regardless of the dollar amount) I feel it should be going to good use and not just disappearing into thin air to be never heard from again. A little bit of an update on the progress is all I ask for. It's been over a year since people here on TB donated (Aug. '06 to be exact).

Anyone?

actually his personal website is not up anymore either, apparently he has started his own record label.

I've PM'd him numerous times and was last active on TB here in the past few weeks. I've also sent him two emails, I'll report back to here if I hear anything.

EDIT: I have heard back from BigMike and he says he has been extremely busy and that he will have enough time in the beginning of '08 to finish up what he started with the relief fund.

I'd also like to know what's going on. I donated a couple of times.

I hope everything's cool...I would hate to see everyone on TB ripped off.

Yet more big drama courtesy of BigMikeW, which only seems fitting IMO, but that doesn't make him a thief.

Can anyone confirm if any money actually disappeared or was it all spent on the charity bass?

This kind of outcome is exactly why the kibosh was put on charity threads, too late though it may have been.

I'm not implying in any way that Mike did anything shady with the funds, but he certainly is in the wrong for not keeping communication open with those who donated. There is an obligation when you head off a charitabe endeavor, and he hasn't kept up with that obligation to keep everyone informed, to stay in touch, to keep his website up and a functioning email address.

disturbing... There is an existing fund for musicians for emergency health benefits though - Sweet Relief. www.sweetrelief.org - I find it's usually wiser to donate to existing organizations like this one.

Yeah, which I think gave it an air of credibility in the minds of some. Presumably that's who Juniorkimbrough contacted (see initial post in this thread). I'm guessing he also contacted MikeBass, who - if I recall correctly - often said he spoke with BigMikeW regularly on the phone. Perhaps that's still the case?

I thought the money had nothing to do with the bass. I thought the money was supposed to go to medical or living expenses. The bass was given because he was having to sell several of his basses. Though i did find it interesting that during that whole time he was still buying and trading other basses while he waited for the Valenti/TB bass. the whole situation was weird to me and I never really understood what was going on and still don't.
