I don't know how else to describe it but when you hear a song/band for the first time, you just KNOW its a certain person playing a part.
One of my favorite guitarists is Tom Morello. One of my friends was playing his newest band Street Sweeper Social a few months ago and when I heard them for the first time, I'm thinking "That HAS to be Tom Morello." I went home and googled it and low and behold it was!
Another example is a few years ago when I picked up Nine Inch Nails CD With_Teeth I thought the way the drummer played was really familiar but I couldn't figure it out. I later found out Dave Grohl played on some tracks for that album.
So what musicians have a signature sound you can pick out when you FIRST hear something and don't know its them from the beginning?
I don't want this to turn into a "Larry Graham has a signature sound or Flea sounds a certain way" thread, just musicians that you can pick out even when they play on side projects or with other bands. |
