My band Los Blancos just got nominated for 3 Los Angeles-Southbay Music Awards. We had a west coast based publicist for the last 18 months or so, and he sure has been worth the money. He has gotten our music into the ears of thousands who would never had heard of us otherwise. Being so far from the market, I'm not sure we have any chance of winning, but it's always nice to be noticed!
