OK, so we've been playing together for about 5 weeks - I started the band with my best friend (drummer) and recruited 2 guitarists. We've been working on our first song (none of us have experience of playing live, writing songs or playing with other people) and we've got it pretty tight. Needs work, but hey!
After hours of sitting and randomly shouting out words / names, we came up with:
Oxymoron
The drummer said we need to come up with an "Oxymoron", so we kept trying to think of one... then I suggested we actually use the word... one of the guitarists needed convincing, but I think we're all happy with it so far!
We're a rock / metal band. I'll get some recordings on here as soon as I can... the song we've written is very "Led Zeppelin - Rock 'N Roll" style, but most of us wanna go towards more metal stuff... I wanna add an element of funk if I can
So, what do you guys think to it?

Oxymoron is (was?) a well known German (oi!)Punkband
It's a very nice bandname though...
Your music description sounds good, rock/metal/Led Zeppelin and bit of Funk (groove) most be an amazing combination... IMO

The best bandnames are the ones that everybody thinks of as "ok, the best right now I guess...". After a couple months it's the best bandname you could imagine. |

That link isn't a band though is it? Just a tribute to fight Club... that's where we came up with it from! Do any bands actually have that name?
Mayhem <> Project Mayhem ;P
The other one we came up with was "Hind D" - as in the attack helicopter... mainly because both the drummer and I are fans of the Metal Gear Solid series and it's in the first one...

| | <-- That guy looks like me, but old. | | Join Date: Aug 2002 Location: Arlington TX | | I posted a list of band names we actually considered on another thread (in Humor and Gig Stories, search for 'coolest and dumbest names') about band names. See if any of these give you ideas. Quote: |

Ready?
Tell It To The Priest
Blind Without a Dog
Talk To Your Daughter
Surfers From Iowa
Grubby Paws
Glass Eye Marbles
Needless Controversy
Inside Joke ( I actually like this one.)
Mars Needs Women and So Does Wayne (I'm Wayne)
Nerds On the Edge
Welfare Bound
Cartoon Characters
Bad Idea
Raised By Wolves Only To Be Killed By Science (I used this for an instrumental title)
Fools And Little Children
Lassie Loves Garfield (This ought to have been a title, but I never used it.)
Potential Cultists
Bee Movies
People With Instruments
No Sense Of Shame
Shameless (Oh look. A pattern forming.)
Black Market Teddy Bears
Irrelevant Flashbacks
Gypsies From Vegas
I Forget
Art of Vanishing (I like this one too)
Mental Radio
Golden Apples and Poisoned Pears (I used that for an instrumental title too)
Local Wildlife
Tiny Box of Fear ( I actually liked this one too.)
Gumby and Pokey
Brief Momens of Clarity
Bitten By Bruno (Bruno was a chihuahua)
The Plan
Rocket Science
All In Disguise
No Vacancy
Lost Cause
Sounds Like
Vicious Attack Snail Trainers
Professor Stupendous
Struck By Lightning Bugs
Brain Fade
Above Average
Just The Facts Ma'am
S. O. Teric
B. Tsar (Oh look. Another pattern forming.)
Wishful Thinking
Fuzzy Logic (The one we actually used for the next several years, This is just where it was in relation to the rest of the suggestions on the list.)
Carnival of Souls
Identity Crisis
Son of Lassie in 3-D
Formerly Something Else
Rhythmic Confusion
Rhythmic Confucius (I liked that better than the previous one.)
Wise But Wierd
Sane Asylum
Wisdom From The High Chair
Glass Hammer ( I like this one too.)
Touch Me There
Daisy's a Babe
Social Darwinists
Doctor Tongues 3-D House of Stewardesses (I think this was from a SCTV skit)
What I want you to grasp here is that this is a severely abridged list. There are four to five times this many names. And as bad as some of the ones I posted are, these are the good ones. I have kept the notebook because it has other things in it that are actually useful to me. But every once in a while I remember that, elsewhere in that notebook is THE LIST .
Enjoy. |

Thanks for all the suggestions, I'll have them take a look on Thursday... but I was looking more for some comments on "Project Mayhem"

Back to the original poster...
'Project Mayhem?' It doesn't suck. It's no Glass House Carpenters, but then what is.

It's not like we have aspirations to be famous or anything... just want something with impact!
Wrote my first song last night - very RATM. Need to put some lyrics to it yet though...

The metal gear:solid snake game on PS1 was not the first. It was the first in a long time. Don't forget the old nintendo version, either.
