I said another cab. Then he starts saying blah blah you already have one why lose money and get another one when you already do.. he doesn't not understand.. arrgg...

Try using a new/different car analogy. Sure you already have a car but it might not be ideal for the needs of the family or whatever you need it for. Or it was just a cheap one to get you by until you could find a better more reliable one.
You need to relate it to something that he understands like cars, trucks, tv's, tools, computers, etc. Whatever it is. |

What are you selling and what are you getting? What does the new cab do that the old one didn't? Why is the new cab worth what you're going to loose, and is the new cab sufficient to actually last you, or are you going to be selling it in six months to get you next "fix"? What are the actuall numbers involved?
If you're selling a 20W practise amp, and getting a 300W 1x15" cab for gigging (and more or less breaking even) then you've got me convinced. If you're selling the 20W practise amp to buy a 50W practise amp then you need to think again.
GAS is bad. Sometimes you need someone to say NO. If you can convince them it's a good idea, then maybe it IS a good idea. If you can't convince them then maybe it is a bad idea.
Maybe your dad DOES understand, and doesn't want you to make a bad deal, or maybe you just haven't explained it to him very well - you didn't exactly explain it to us, other than I WANT A NEW CAB.

This from a guy who has flipped many things, but I am great at locating what I want at a fair used price, and I can move things at the same fair used price. If you can do that, not so bad. If you can't, I can see how your dad might be a little miffed.
Do you know what you are going for?
"Has your dad ever sold a car that was 'ok' and then bought a more expensive one?"
This is exactly what your dad should be trying to prevent at all costs. |

Why ?
1. You already know, Crate isn't the best sounding cab.
2. It's way too heavy, I'm sick of having to transport it everywhere.
For an Epifani UL-112
1. It sounds better.
2. It's 192387 pounds less.
No matter what, I know I will get another cab. I rather get rid of this one, which will go downstairs and collect dust, than keep it. Crate isn't worth much either.. In a few years it'll cost even less and selling I don't think I can get much more than I am offered.

It's also a super expensive cab. Why not something cheaper, you already got a bad back at 16?
Sell the Valenti, get a MIJ Fender Reissue, take the remaining money and buy whatever amp you want. Take your dad out of the equation. Do you work? |

to be fair..
1) It will last him a while so it's a good investment
2) it will prevent him from having a bad back in the future
if it sounds better and weighs less.. what more convincing does your dad need? Even a non-musician should agree these are good reasons to upgrade

go with the aguilar gs112 used, about 300 bones, they are going to sound every bit as great, and while they aren't real heavy (I walk in with amp in one hand and that in the other), at your age you could use a 'little' work out. |

Anyhow, sounds like a solid investment, but that Epifani is a super expensive piece of gear, I would suggest a solid cab like a Ampeg, Aguilar, SWR or something else that does the job good, at least until you have a full time job (if you aren't full time session player ATM, which I doubt). BTW, what amp do you intend to use?
