So I'm replacing him with a robot (drum machine)
I'm good with making drum beats anyway

No more off tempo beats

lol at the "good with making drum beats" line...

I've been drumming for nearly 10 years and I can tell you that there's much more to it than arranging some kick, snare, and cymbals in the right order.

I am sure there is! I am really bad programming / arranging drums and percussion because I don't play drums. My patterns sound very artificial, at times...

Plus, I am always afraid of programming something impossible - you know, something that would require a drummer with two left arms.

Do you have any links on how to "write" for drums? Or should I just learn by example?

Take care!

If you can read music, head to the nearest music store and grab one of the million drum books. I have one that's "1001 patterns for drumset". Some cheesy ones, but mostly legit, and all playable.
