My first time on stage last night!

A little background - I started playing bass in January. Have had weekly lessons ever since. To this day still have never played with anything but my 30 watt practice amp. My teacher plays in a band that gigs around town in bars and such, so I go to Cheeseburger in Paradise where his band played last night. They are a good band to watch and I try to catch them once a month.

Anyways, towards the end of the night he comes up to the bar and asks if I want to do Comfortably Numb on bass. I'm freaking out, have had 3 22 oz Island ales, and just did a pit bull on crack shot. So, I was a little buzzed and suddenly nervous, heheh. Now, this song really is hard to screw up, and I have played it so much I could do it in my sleep. I told him I need to piss first and collect my thoughts.

In the bathroom I'm going over the song and notes and I blank, I could not remeber a certain part. I go out to him twoards the stage and he announces me(great, no turning back now). I quietly ask him about a certain part, and he hands me the bass and says play that part real quick now and quiet. I got it, it was only a couple notes, but once I got the bass on, it all came back to me like it never left. Im still freaking out though, but once we started the song, it all went away. Then it was all 2nd nature like breathing. I calmed down, and decided to have fun and just nailed it. Smiled, looked at the crowd etc...It was great. After the song I thanked the band(guiatrist and drummer), I knew there were parts where my timing wasnt spot on. I thanked my teacher, and said that was something I will never forget the rest of my life. Sat back down with my g/f and finished my beer.

This was a major milestone in my bass career and a great learning experience since I have never played with a band before.

Great man welcome to the players world. You know, Ive been playen 30 years and sometimes Ill still forget stuff in songs, but the longer you play the better you recover from those "blank outs" and solder on. Congrats on your first time out sounds like you did fine..

Seems fun. I wouldn't mind playing comfortably numb on stage. Nice and easy song! Congrats
