MY HERO...92,and still going!!

I just thought I'd post a little tribute to my Dad.He started playing guitar when he was 17...He's 92 now,and still jamming with me every day,and playing a gig once a month in a "refurbished"dancehall he and his brothers built in 1948 where they packed in crowds every weekend, and in which he accompanied Jim Reeves one night and Marty Robbins one weekend. He plays pedal steel...dobro...lead,rhythm,and bass guitar. Although the years have slowed him down,he still sounds good on the steel and dobro. He is on no medications...and when he went to see the doctor last month, the doctor asked him to what he attributed his extrodinary good health,to which he replied,"I eat fresh fruit every morning, and I stay away from doctors."He told me his REAL success for longivity has been music, and a patient woman. Now you know Tex Ross...who is kind of a "legend" here in the Uintah Basin....He is my HERO.

Thanks for sharing . Stories like this reinforce my belief of the power of music. I really hope I can reach an older age while still having the ability to play. Congrats to you and your father. Sounds like a wondrful life so far. Pics?

Nice story.
My grandma turned 92 this August. She can walk (with a single cane). She went to the doctor yesterday and they said she was in very good shape for her age. They asked how, she said she didn't do anything special in the morning.

My dad had a Fender USA guitar and Tube amp from the mid sixties and got drafted to Vietnam. He came back to my grandmother and grandfather selling it off due to non use.

He playing bars and clubs in the rock circuit and gave it up after that. I kinda wish he wouldn't have. I like hearing these stories.

Thats very similar to my uncle's predicament. He had a 6120 Chet Atkins model. He was told that they were going draft by a army recruiter (before the draft happened). The recruiter offered that if my uncle joined before the draft that he would find a place for him in the ranger training program that were reforming. At the time my uncle was a very good marksman too so that may have helped. When he came home he found his fiance was cheating on him so that made him really depressed so he sold many things. Years later he bought a 1974 Fender natural (US) strat similar to

Very cool Kent! If I live to be 92, I sure hope that I am still able to play the bass.
