My kids' Middle School Band performing

Sign in to disble this ad
My kids (11 & 13) put together a jam band in their Instrumental Elective class. They performed "Stairway To Heaven" (yeah, I know) for the annual "Grandpersons Day" program.

My 11 yr old has been playing bass for a couple years and has a nice P Frankenbass. But for this performance he insisted on using my Roscoe LG-3005 unlined fretless. With black strings. On an ebony board.

My 13 year old usually plays keyboards, but has been working on guitar for almost a year, thus the song selection.

Couple rough spots, but they pretty much jammed.

Enjoy!

Looks good! I wish my parents got me involved with this kind of music when I was younger. I played trumpet in middle school and I never really liked it.
Now-a-days you've got jazz band programs and other stuff getting people at younger ages. Which is great. They keep it up and practice with groups of people like that and their talent will only grow if it's what they're passionate about.
I know if I would of been handed a guitar or bass at that age I would of probably played nonstop. I had to wait until I was old enough to work and saved up for my first guitar at 16.

I noticed the guitarist was stopping the resonance by palming his right hand across the strings to mute em. Little odd. Just doesn't seem like a natural thing to do. When I was learning guitar most of what I was playing was metal so I was used to palm muting but it was with the back of my hand, not with the whole thing.
Maybe once he's more comfortable with his technique he can get past it and either do it with his left hand, or just make it not so abrupt ya know?
Just throwing out a little constructive criticism.
It ain't perfect, but I really wish I was exposed to guitar/bass when I was that age. They make ya proud!

Thanks for sharing
