My New Band!

Sign in to disble this ad
I have always been a church musician playing in various praise and worship settings since I began playing a few years back. Here lately, I've really wanted to start a secular band that could play some of the other stuff that I'm really into. I'm happy to say that dream is finally looking to become a reality. My current drummer who is amazing and I have been talking about doing something on the side. I have a friend who plays guitar and sings. He's actually a guitar teacher and has been teaching guitar for a long time. He is one of the most respected musicians around here and I've actually taken a couple of lessons from him when I was in a rut and it helped tremendously. I've played with him once before when he needed a bassist and we joked about starting a band one day, but it never came up again.

Recently I called him about a band that I'm currently in. I am very unhappy with the two new guitar players that are playing with us but the drummer and myself are the only 2 that don't really care for them. The singer is friends with them and he has no idea that they aren't very good musicians. I really see no future with this band and am only in it because I love playing with the drummer. After talking with my friend about my current band situation he asked me if I was interested in forming a new band? I replied: Yes! He then said that he really did want to start a band with me because he dug my playing and thought I was a cool guy. He asked me if I had a drummer in mind and I told him yes. My drummer is committed to the project and now were learning several songs for a gig we've already landed on November 6th. This is a pretty high paying gig as well. The singer/guitar player got it for us so were about to start practicing like crazy to get down a 20 song set list.

Here are several of the songs were going to be playing:
1. my hero
2. save me
3. cumbersome
4. plush
5. shimmer
6. comedown
7. far behind
8. top of the world
9. i can't drive 55
10. caught up in you
11. bad day
12. trippin on a hole in a paper heart
13. you
14. even flow
15. if you could only see

The goal is eventually to write our own stuff, but to learn covers to gig and find our sound. I'm pretty stoked about this new project and that the singer/guitarist is even considering me for a project.

1 gig lined up for now. We will be playing at some type of marathon. They wanted a band playing for the crowd apparently?
