My new signature and what it means

I have a new signature. After anything I post, the statement "Low-end equipment will not have the quality of high-end equipment. But it will suffice." will appear.

I'm the kind of guy who believes that it doesn't matter what you use. All that matters is that it sounds good. I could play Tool on a MusicMan Stingray or a Rickenbacker 4003. It won't sound exactly like Tool, but it will sound good. You will never hear me say, "Oh no, it doesn't sound exactly like the recording, my equipment must suck". Well, at the moment, my equipment does suck, but I intend to purchase better equipment.

I would sure love to purchase a MusicMan Stingray. But a voice in my head tells me that I'm not ready for it. I must wait until I get a job that can give me the money to buy one. Until then, I must get a Fender bass (active or passive, so what?).

I think you should change "But it will suffice" with "But, it may suffice". There are certain situations where it may not suffice such as if it has high amounts of noice that come through live or in recording settings, action that cannot be set low enough to play certain styles well etc. For the most part low end gear will suffice for many applications, but its not true to say that it will always be sufficient.

I'll change my sig as soon as I have the cash to be a supporting member. Which could be around this year.

Thanks for the explanation. Since I have all signatures turned off I would have never known the difference.

Agreed! I always never know how to answer these arguments when I see them. The gear doesn't make the player, but in my experience, pro-level gear sounds, well "pro," and lower-end gear may sound sufficient, but it usually isn't going to have the nuances of higher-end gear. Sorry for the run-on sentence. Victor Wooten will sound like a good player whether he's playing on a Rogue or his Fodera, but I guarantee the sound quality coming from the Fodera (not to mention the playability) is going to be lightyears beyond what's coming from the Rogue. I've watched countless guitar players try to make their Crates sound like Dual Rectifiers and Uberschalls, and I'm sorry, a Crate's not going to have the sound quality of a Dual Rectifier or Uberschall, no matter how far right you turn its gain knob and how far left you turn the mids knob...though the Crate Blue Voodoo does come close to a Marshall (though I consider the Blue Voodoo to actually be a pro-level guitar rig).

Different strokes for different folks. Some of my gear is high end, some is low end... I use what works for me and couldn't care less what others think.
