okay well ive been playing bass for about a month and its my first instrument. i am playin it a LOT. im not giving up on it or anything, but Im thinkin about savin my money up now for something else also to have, because you can only do so much with a bass. I am stuck between a acoustic guitar...a keyboard... or an electric guitar. Id probably prefer acoustic over electric, and i also like keyboards cause u can do so much with em and they sound sweet, but then again the guitar u can do alot with too and it also is cool... but ive already got a bass... but then it would help me improve my skills both ways... but... i just cant decide. What do you think? =/

Only so much you can do with a bass?? Give yourself a chance dude!! There is plenty you can do with a bass!!!

I myself would go with keyboards, then you can learn to read music (not just tab) and that will open more opportunities for you on bass, if you can sight read. Plus, you might yourself playing some of that piano stuff on the bass...now that is fun!!

Then again, I have played different instruments all my life (piano, flute guitar and bass). But for the last 10 years it has been all about the bass, and I have never found myself limited as to how much I can do. In fact, I get frustrated as there is still so much I can't do!!

FrizzleFry is right. Sure we all knock guitards around, but it's very satisfying to play acoustic guitar by yourself. I'm still all thumbs on my acoustic, I suppose it would help if I actually bought a decent one.

Getting another instrument is fine and all, but there's some truth to people saying if you try to double you'll just end up mediocre at both instruments instead of truly proficient at one.

I play guitar, upright and keys along with bass guitar 'cause I don't get a chance to play with other people very much and its the only way I can record what I write. I've gotten pretty good at all of them over the years, but I'd be much better if I had concentrated on one. You really do loose a lot when you neglect one instrument for another and its hard to squeeze in enough practice time to really improve at more than one at a time.
