$ 100.55 ticket got me close enough to Geddy to see the brand of jeans he was wearing even my neice mentioned during the intermission how tight his jeans were..at his age he looks to be in great shape...no lip sinching either it was all Geddy, on the really high notes he would just leave them out and would not bother hitting them...especially on Freewill. Most of the songs were played with his Fender Sig model. I saw a purple Wal and if not mistaken a sunburst Fender Jazz. I only saw the Ric for one song Passage to Bangcock. I was tring to figure out why every once and a while Geddy would tap the side of his head with his hand ala I could of had a V8 fasion...it was pretty funny. When cartman and the boys are trying to play Limelight and the lyrics are all wrong and they count off for take two then the real Rush plays that was classic. I think Neil wears that cap to cover baldness...I noticed during Alex 12 string solo on the monitiors the guy is very bald...and as much as Neil has the cameras at all angles on him he wears the hat....Geddy needs to share some of his hair with them. Hey, just like Geddy said before intermission. "we need to take a wee break, were no spring chickens any more" Speaking of chickens why the roticeries on stage? A "cook" comes out and bastes them then later on in the concert a guy in a chicken suit comes out on stage. Why does Geddy have the spinning Mini-drummer? when he said this is were I introduce the band and he only introduced the mini-drummer as My little friend...did not even mention neil, alex or himself. Obvioulsy he does not have to. As far as the crowd from age 9 to 60 it looked like. There were three girls in front of us early to mid 20's standing for the whole concert like most everybody, really getting into it..I did not think Rush was something you could actually groove dance to but they sure could. . Very excellent concert. I was thinking they were gonna mention John Rutseys passing but they didnt...after Neils drum solo the last image on the screens is of Buddy Rich which I thought was cool....I teared up a few times during the concert..tears of joy obviously...my neice admitted she teared up after Neils solo...She said it was all the excitement and energy in the place and everybody just going crazy rocking out to these older guys. IF you have not gone you need to. Rush has always been the You either Love em or Hate em type band but if you hate em you might wanna go it could change your mind. |

With Rush, you either go big or go home.
Same with Maiden, and I believe I made the right choice. |

| | | | These guys seriously just get better with age!
I took my wife to the Houston show last year (1st leg of the tour) and she was instantly converted. When they announced the second leg, she immediately asked me "we're going, right?" (And we did.) |

I didn't have quite as premo seats but I was on the floor and had a very good view of the band playing, and it was an experience. Even at their age, they managed to put on a fantastic show and I thought the little novelties were great. Nearing the end of the show, Lifeson even cracked a smile and got into it. Geddy, of course, took this as an opportunity to poke fun at him as he mimicked Lifeson in every way for a little while. As before, Geddy had his signature black Jazz bass, but also a Sunburst Jazz, a Ric for "A Passage to Bangkok" and a Fender Custom Shop Pastorius replica for Malignant Narcissism. He didn't have the Wal for any songs, sadly.
During Tom Sawyer (The last song of the regular set before the encore) I knew before hand of the South Park intro, but it was still good fun to hear Cartman sing "A modern day warrior, named Tom Sawyer! He floated down the river on a raft, with a black guy!". The guys beside me nearly pee'd themselves laughing.
After the first 4 (I believe) songs, Geddy came out and told us that there was no grudge against Winnipeg, which was the rumour, and that they were sorry they didn't get here earlier. He also mentioned that he'd punish us with about 1000 songs, and while he didn't quite get there, the 3 hour 15 minute performance was glorious none-the-less. They only took 1 20 minute break, citing they weren't "spring chickens" anymore.
Of course, the chicken rotisseries were there and the chef came out to tend them, mid song, to the surprise and amusement of the crowd. After the show, I had to go and buy chicken. Overall, it's an experience I won't soon forget, and hopefully they'll be back before another 26 years are up.

I might just give them away, but I would rather not be out two hundred dollars. |
