My playing (video)

Sign in to disble this ad
I recorded a video of myself playing a sort of cover. I improvise a bit, after the first few minutes during the jam..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6d4pkXtcI0

Im curious what people think...i know im not too good,
but ive been playing for about a year, and im wondering
if im even as good as someone who has been playing for such a period.
I have had no lessons, and have learned a few songs (rhcp, cake)
Thanks for any imput...
Ben

Honestly, your playing isn't bad at all for someone who has only been playing for a year without lessons. Keep up the good work!
And with that said there are a few things that need work as is with ALL of us here whether we'll admit it or not.

Here's a couple things I noticed that need a little work.
Consistency and efficiency in your left hand. All that extra motion adds up in the long run and can be heard in your playing.
Consistency in your right hand. You seemed to hit all the notes I think you wanted to hit, but the volume and tone of each was different from the next.

Keep up the good work and don't stop!

so i get consistency of my right(picking) hand, but what do you mean in regards to my left hand? Thanks for the encouragement and advice!
Any tips on how to make my playing more even?

oh like to be more efficient with my left? Its really hard, I have really small hands, and I feel like im always stretching, regardless where on the neck I cover 3 frets with 4 fingers. Any advice for creating fills? I cant seem to get beyond the square shaped thing. Not sure if you know what im referring to, but the notes all fall into a square pattern and I have trouble finding other complimentary notes to play...
Thanks again
