Unhappy My Poor New Guitar- Question About UPS Claims

Sign in to disble this ad
I was anxiously awaiting the arrival of my Ibanez AF105 today, and upon opening the case, I find the bridge has broken where it meets the body. It also looks like the body wood broke a bit under where the bridge attaches. I filed a claim with UPS within an hour, and they're picking it up on Monday. Anyone have an idea on how fast they can repay a claim?

Aside from the obvious damage, it looks rather pretty

I like the flammed pick guard.

That sucks... that's why I'm not that big of a fan of those old-school style bridges.

it's not the bridge's fault. It's the shipping company. They probably put soemthing heavy on it or kicked it around.

I don't doubt it. The box and guitar case were undamaged, but you can break anything if you toss it around. Sad too- it's the first time I've received anything damaged by UPS.

I've heard that they are not very quick, unfortunately. Just like any big corporation. Big and sluggish.

Just saw this thread.

Bad news, Bryan:

In April, I shipped an SWR Workingman's 15 to TB'er sevenorchids via my local UPS store.

I was given a delivery date of the next week (shipped on Tuesday) but it made it there in two days - destroyed.

They left it on the side of his house after apparently throwing it into and out of the van they shipped it in. The corner was cracked through the wood, so the cab was a loss.

I filed a claim on April the 24th, the day I received word from sevenorchids that the cab was dead.

I got my money June 6. This after they requested an "eBay" receipt and gave me hell when I told them it was a transaction conducted online without the help of aforementioned eBay (perish the thought.)

Paypal receipt wasn't enough. E-mails that matched up with the paypal receipts weren't enough (showing e-mail accounts attached on both sides, the transfer of funds, etc.). I finally went online and printed off web pages selling the same cabinet at higher prices than my insurance claim.

They even went so far as to not pay me all the money they owed (insurance plus shipping would have been about $230, I got about $207), but after that wait, I was happy to just get anything at all.

Hopefully, your claim will go better than mine did. They DID pay, but they sure didn't want to do so.

Dharma- I purchased the guitar from a fellow TBer. If the shipper is responsible for filing the claim, does that mean I should ask the shipper to refund my money, as he is the one who will be receiving the claim check?

Yes. In our case, sevenorchids waited until the claim was completed saying that he didn't want me to be screwed out of all of the money for the cab if UPS didn't come through for me.

But yeah, the shipper is the one that gets to deal with it, as they originated the shipment and filed insurance (hopefully.)

I bought an Eden combo from bassnw some time ago. About a day before it was due to arrive it's online status changed from 'on time' to 'in transit'(I've been told this apparently means it's likely been severely damaged ). 3-4 additional days later, it arrived; damaged beyond possible use. They did make good on it- I don't recall it being terribly slow or a hassle, but U.S. Musical(Eden's parent company)took FOR*EV*ER to get a new one moving. Seems they had built that year's run & didn't have components for a new one, specifically, a driver. Anyway, my input is that in dozens of UPS transactions, they have only dropped the ball(bass?)on me once, & took care of it in a fairly reasonable amount of time, as I recall.
Bryan R, if it makes you feel any better, I have heard the opposite about Fedex.
Otherwise, nice little jazz-box.
