My small complaint regarding new gear(pointless mini rant)

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm a guy whos had a lot of gear over the years. Mostly top end stuff (Warwick, Status, Sukop, EBS etc.)
The trouble I'm having right now is I would like to try some new gear but I can't find any of it to actually Play.
I don't like to buy new gear sight unseen.
I'm in the market for a 5 string bass and since I'm a 4 string player, The Ibanez line has intrigued me with their tight spacing and slim necks.
I can't find any dealers that carry more than the lower end of the SR basses . They make so many models, I'd like to try a few from the SR 605 or the neck through 800/900 series up to the 4005 prestige .
Nobody carries them except the Mail order houses.

Same thing with the Traynor Yba 200 and 4x12 cab.
Oh well. Time to change my diaper

Many places have return policies. More than worth the hassle IMO.

Oh, I agree with you but I don't want to order 4 Basses on my credit card just to try them and send back the three I don't want.

Are you able to road trip, within a reasonable distance, to any purveyor of the goods you wish to look at, and might have said instruments in stock? It's a pain in the backside, but I'll drive a good distance, if need be to look at something I might really want, that the local dealers in my city don't have. A friend of mine who collects vintage stuff, drops down money for air travel to go look at stuff that captures his fancy, so I don't gripe if I gotta make a make a round trip of a couple of hundred miles or so. Sometimes doing it with musician friends as a road trip can make it a fun adventure worth the hassle, even if you end up not buying anything.

Next time you're in San Diego, stop by Bass San Diego. Better set aside two days for that.
