NAMM Open to the Public on Sunday!!

Sign in to disble this ad
I received information that the NAMM show is open to the public on Sunday (tomorrow) 1/21/07. The information source that said NAMM is open to the public tomorrow said that there will be a charge for entry but he doesn't know how much. Can anyone here confirm or deny that information?

I'm planning on going tomorrow and since I live two hours away from Anaheim, CA, I don't want to waste a trip.

Thanks

I wonder how many of them leave on Saturday night?

I'd love to go one of these years, but I perfectly understand why it is NOT open to the public.

That was just a rumor and I found that out FIRSTHAND today after driving two and a half hours and getting a speeding ticket in the process.

The NAMM show remains closed to the public and registration people said that they don't understand how these rumors get started.

Well, better luck for me next year. I hope!

A friend told me that tickets are about $75 a day.

If my memory serves me correctly. It could have been $50

It is just a rumor. NAMM is closed to the public every day. Sunday is typically a light day for exhibitors at NAMM. I know this because I am an exhibitor. If you want to get into NAMM, you need to be connected to the industry.

They are also very strict on badge quotas. So, even those of us that are paying big money to be there only get a few badges.

I forgot to add that it was an exhibitor (won't mention which one) that told me about the NAMM being open to the public on Sunday.

Yeah, I was told about the badge quotas from a local music store that USED to get NAMM badges for me every year. The store manager told me that they are only alloted so many per store now and that they (NAMM) were really trying to crack down on badge swapping.

Although I really wanted to go, I can understand why they are being so strict.

You do? I'd be interested to hear why you understand that.

Frankly, I think NAMM is missing the boat in a BIG way by not having one day open to the public.

Well, I just received the post-NAMM survey. The last question on it was how do I feel about adding a public day. So, I suppose if enough exhibitors want it, then they will add it, but for the moment it is trade-only.

The reason for not allowing the public in is that the focus is supposed to be about connecting buyers with sellers. If retail store buyers can't get to talk with the manufacturers because the general public is creating a huge crowd, then it does defeat the purpose of a trade show. Honestly, the show is pretty crowded already without it being open to the public.

I'll give you a quote from a 'well known manufacturer' of musical instruments:

"NAMM should have a public day. Auto shows are one of the hottest things for car makers. It gives them a chance to showcase prototypes, tip their product development hand, gauge the attitudes of consumers, and generate a lot of consumer excitement in the process. I think we could do the same with a public day at NAMM. Too many people in our business are scared of getting face-to-face with their customers."

Think about it, Bob. One day, open to the public. You think more excitement would be generated amongst the consumers?

Jack

Possibly, but Saturday is already a zoo at NAMM. I heard people yelling at the parking attendents because the lots were full. Walking through the aisles took a fair bit of asserting yourself.

I'm not saying that the public is bad, but if they have a public day, then they will need to do something to control the numbers because that place is a mad house on Saturday just with the currently badged people.

I couldn't agree more!

NAAM should absolutely open to the public on Snday when it dies down a bit. I can't see the logic to not allow it to the public.

Sorry, it sounds like an episode from Ashton Kutcher's "Punk'd"

Unfortunately, it's a Business-to-Business extravaganza only. And they don't have any problem selling out spaces at $2,500 per 100 square feet I believe (some spaces are 80X80 feet - do the math - cha ching).

harder to steal a car than it is to steal an instrument, and having it open to the public just increases the risk of this happening.

Besides theft, it's the handling and abuse and nicks and scratches and bumps and drops and all the other OOPS that manufacturers don't want happening to their pieces. Some of those pieces aren't even production pieces, and it would suck to see a beautifully crafted first-ever get ruined in some accident.

I absolutely understand the logic behind avoiding the public attendees. Last thing all these expensive instruments and gear needs is a baby stroller getting knocked on top of them or who knows what other random scares can occur.
