So I went to FYE yesterday and traded in a whole bunch of cds i found at a garage sale for a bit of cash. I decide to go browsing, and I see a lot of new death/grind metal bands that i want to check out, but I'm just not convinced with the quality some bands believe they have today. So anyway, I see the new napalm death album.......live. Picked it up, these guys F***ing ROCK live! Read the insert, and turns out the entire performance was one live concert (compared to other bands that need six or seven gigs to get a whole line of songs right). The thing that's just bothering me is how they've gone so long without more recognition......I mean $H!T, they're the world's oldest (and first) grindcore band, been around 20-30 years, and have no remaining original members, and they're still kicking the new school's @$$ at grinding, are very active both live and in studio, and they don't have more fans? Sometimes I just don't get it.............

besides, it's not that bad | Well God Smack is an Alice in Chains song, and they were an AIC cover band before they got big doing originals.
Dillinger Escape Plane is exactly that, Dillinger's plan on escaping, and well drowning pool is dumb I guess. |

But there in lies the magic, a second outburst is a song, if they label it as such. I think this SONG is genius, in that second the question, "You suffer, but why?" is asked, and really, that is a pretty powerful question when looked at in many different contexts. That's another great thing about Napalm Death, their lyrics are often more about social commentary and real life situations, rather than the Cannibal Corpse "****ed with a knife" lyrics... which I love as well, but in a different way.
I honestly love Napalm Death... I can't say that about a lot of metal. They are the band I would pick to represent metal because not only did they start "grindcore," their new album (from those old fogeys) DESTROYS most of the stuff from modern metal bands. The Code is Red is one of the heaviest albums I've ever heard, as a non mosher, this album makes me wanna mosh. I want to see them live before I die.

Heck, sometimes it feels like the hardest thing you hear on the radio today is the Foo Fighters.
I'm sure Napal Death still enjoy decent tours in Europe and other parts of the world, where metal is still alive and kicking. |

Very rare for a band to be around pushing 30 years, with no original members as someone above pointed out, and be releasing arguably their most progressive, hardest-hitting, and poignant work.
Live they are fantastic. Videos do it no justice. I've seen them several times, the last time travelling about 2100 miles round trip to do it (and see Opeth the next night).
I go to all kinds of shows from local jazz in small cafes to platinum-selling rock in arenas, and Napalm is one of the best live acts - consistently so, over the course of years - that I have ever seen. And that's from someone who doesn't even listen to the bulk of their recorded work (with the exception of their recent couple of discs).
I thought Live In Japan was really good too. If there's a new live disc, I'll check that out. Thanks for the tip.
