Need a flight case?

I would be remiss if I didn't bring this product to your attention.

I'm a college student, and I have to travel from Los Angeles to Rochester, NY on a frequent basis. I sometimes want to bring my bass along.

The first time, I used a standard fender hardshell and was scared to death about what would happen. My bass survived, but the case got badly beaten. Chips, holes, etc. So I looked into a flight case. Most of them cost upwards of $250 and I simply did not have that much scratch.

But as anyone who has an SX knows, Rondo has some sweet stuff for fairly little green, and I saw they had this flight case. So I bought it to protect my investment.

It is simply the best $100 I've ever spent on my bass. It's as fully functional as more expensive flight cases, and I never worry anymore about keeping my bass safe on cross country journeys. I had been meaning to advertise this thing on TalkBass for a while, but only recently after traveling again did I remember to.

So if you're flying with your bass and you don't have a good flight case yet, please look into this. Hell, I'd even recommend it for regular gig shuffling. (Just wrap a generous amount of duct tape around the handle - it's a little thin and hurts your hand if you carry it for a while, but the tape will bulk it up).

Amen - I bought one right before I moved to Japan. I've used it a ton, and it looks great, and protects the bass perfectly!

Wow, that sure looks like a heavy-duty flight case!

Which begs the question: What makes my >$300 Anvil ATA case weigh 45 lbs, and is that additional heft actually contributing to protecting the instrument better than this $89.95, 7 lb beauty?

Well, firstly, the case weighs better than 20lbs. My Patitucci signature in this case weighs 18 kilos - or just under 40 pounds.

To the rest of your question, other than internal fitting options, I don't know.

What about the handle? It doesn't look recessed.

does the off-set handle balance the case better when it's loaded?

If you jumped on top of the case, does it give to the point of hitting the instrument?

thanks for the link!

I just scour CL. I've gotten a ton of Anvil cases and Calzone cases for dirt cheap.

Oh. I was confused by the part of the website where it says "Case ships new in a double box. Note, this item is "UPS oversize" and ships as if it weighs 30 lbs. Actual weight is only 7.5 lbs"

I guess the "double box" alone is what weighs 7.5 lbs?
