Need good coil cable w/ silent plug

Sign in to disble this ad
Okay, TBers, I'm running out of ideas here. Surely you know where I can find such a beast!

The stage I play on is cramped and dark, and I sit when I play. My cable CONSTANTLY gets caught under the leg of the stool, and it's very difficult to get it out from underneath (unless I stand up, which is also an issue). So I figured a coiled cord that sounded good would be a nice way to go in this case.

I'm also looking for a good silent plug for said cord. I know Neutrik makes them, but they're pricey; I've heard bad things about using them with active electronics due to the TRS setup for the battery. I know Ernie Ball has made one for years, and that'd be fine, but it's a little bulky - I'm a little worried about a huge plug and a coil cord putting extra weight on that output jack.

YOU guys always know where the coolest stuff is... anyone got an idea?

edit: now I see, no good with active basses.

about the stool on the cable - no idea really.. perhaps a wireless system, but itīs probably overkill.

I guess itīs a permanent gig - maybe you can buy some long bulk cable, 2 connectors and get your soldering iron out & (semi)permanently install that on the stage floor with duct tape in a way it canīt get in the way of your stool?

I don't know about the battery issue, but it doesn't sound like this would accomplish your goal of having a silent plug!

Hmm... I know that Planet Waves made a cable that had a circuit breaker built into one plug. That way you could plug and unplug without the associated pop or bang most amps have. No idea if they still make it or if it comes in a coil form.

You can buy the plug separately, then splice it on a good quality coiled cable.

you know, this is exactly what i was looking for too, then yeah i did read that note about active basses not working with those silent connectors and that's basically what i'd want to silence so I'm probably screwed either way. i kinda just gave up and bought a bullet cable one instead off musiciansfriend, which doesn't have one of those neutrik silent ends on it but at least it looks decent...so far it seems like a really nice cable but it just got here today sooo no final word yet.

In the end if you really want the silent end you'd just have to buy one of the silent plugs and solder it on your self. Those connectors aren't really that expensive though, the neutrik ones are usually no more than like $7-8. I think there's another brand out there that makes em called G&H quiet connectors, they are a bit cheaper if you are looking for cheapest possible. do a google shopping search and i'm finding em around $3 or less in bulk.

I've had one of the Bullet coiled cables for about three years and it's great, though a bit heavy physically for a cable. The plugs are not silent plugs but looks nice.
