Thanks! | Once upon a time I was in a ska band. We did a couple of Hepcat tunes from time to time, but Country Time from Scientific was always one of my favorites.

Goldfinger's cover of "Feel Like Making Love" is really good. There's 99 Red Balloons too, but that's not really ska. |

Anna (sorry I can't for the life of me remember her last name) from the Pilfers is pretty rippin' and grooving. She's on their first album.
I'd also suggest that there's no heavier presence in ska than the ORIGINAL ska bassist Lloyd Brevett. He's the heaviest. I've been lucky enough to share a few stages and dressing rooms with him and its astounding.
For roots ska stuff, try Marcus from the Slackers. He's got a groove a mile wide.
From that era stuff I also think you can't go wrong with anything Victor Rice (Scofflaws/NYSJE) has done. Super heavy and good on either upright or electric.
Hmmm...can't go wrong with Stubborn Allstars, Insteps or Skavoovie either, if you can find any of their stuff.
If you haven't done it, check early Fishbone. Party at Ground Zero is an all time classic!
Lessee, don't forget your two tone either! Specials, Madness, Selector, Bad Manners...

By the way, some good songs from your list
Streetlight manifesto- Keasbey nights or 1234 1234 (actually both covers of older catch 22 songs but still great songs.
Less Than Jake- All my best friends are metal heads
Op. Ivy- Unity, Sound System, Take Warning, Yelling in my Ear
RBF- Beer, Sell Out
hope that helps if you are still looking for songs.

Walking Away by Streetlight Manifesto.
Please, try these above all else. Great songs, and really cool basslines. They are just a bit on the "fast" side, at least, for my slow-ass fingers.
And RobTheSkanker, I know Catch 22 did them first, but can they even be counted as being covers? I mean, Tomas wrote the songs, if he takes them to another band, don't they stay his? This has always kinda confused me. |
