My budget is around 700-1000 bucks the less the better

I've seen the

I want to have the Hammond, Rhodes, Herbie Hancock Synth sounds, Piano and some 80's stuff like Europe Axel F etc...

well, i'm about to go the midi route, myself. i'll have some native instruments software for the "instruments," and i'll get an m-audio axiom 25. i'm not trying to be a concert pianist or anything, so i don't feel i need more than a minimal set of keys. if you really want to learn the instrument, you've got some options for more keys, up to 88.

I'm lovin' the Korg M50, and about |this| close to getting one ... I sold a new-ish Korg TR-76 last year, and am still kickin' myself for being so stupid. The Korg pianos are excellent, as are the strings and the orchestral intruments (brass, woodwind, etc). Synth sounds are good, and anything can be tweaked. Korg has returned to a touch pad interface (the TR didn't have it, but the earlier Tritons did).

I prefer a synth touch keyboard as opposed to fully weighted piano action. I also like Korg's implementation of the "aftertouch" on many of the presets.

It depends on what kind of music you are going to make with it. For me, it required good pianos and organs, and really good orchestrals. For others, it's the crazy synth tones, sampling, workstation/sequencer vs arranger, and such that seals the deal.

I'm waiting to see if a good TR-Rack pops up on CL in the next month or so, and I'd pair that with a decent midi keyboard. I don't need the seq/WS functionality, and would do it on a DAW if I did.

I have a Korg MS2000, a Roland SH-201 and I just got a Roland Fantom X6. I've also had a few Korg Electribes, The Redsound Voyager, and MicroKorg. The X6 is a real leap for me, never having had a synth so advanced. But I'm looking forward to playing with it.

A friend of mine has the Korg Triton and swears by it, another has a Yamaha Motif. I would definitely go play as many as you can, compare features.

For $299 I got myself this: http://keyboards-midi.musiciansfrien...ELAID=58488527

I see its gone up in price a little, but still well worth it.
