Question Need help valuing a Squier

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys, first post here for me but I'd love a little help in valuing my first bass as I sadly have no room for it and need money...

There's two reasons I need help valuing it, first thing is that as I said it was my first bass, and since I was young, it had been repaired, The second reason I need help is that i've found it to be a harder bass to identify online, and have yet to see it on squier's site, even in the support section !!!

Anyway, I found one guy on FLICKR with the same bass and from there luckily found a store that has one listed
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/produ...ass?sku=510581

The condition of the bass is not the best, it was my first bass, and since I was young, I did not quite know how to care for things properly I'll provide pictures below of the bass and with the previous drop damage and marks on it etc...
All I ask is that you guys don't lynch me for having dropped it ! I was only twelve at the time, and not used to the weight

and then the final thing with condition is that the electrics are a bit weird, the lower pickup stopped working a few years ago, and with that the tone of the bass gives me an active buzzing whenever I use it...
I'm pretty sure that it's fixable, so if anyone can direct me to any guides I'd be happy to do it myself if possible !

Here's a link to the worst of the damage on it

and a link to the gallery with the rest of the images of it

Thanks a lot for any help guys and sorry if I posted this in the wrong forum, but I would love to get rid of this soon, even if it's just for parts sadly

I would not worry about the value on it IMO. It's worth more to you as a playable instrument, and will not get you alot of value on a trade in.

Working and mint Squier 4 string P and J basses can be found all day on Craigslist for $75-$100. This is a beat up one with a non-working pickup, but it's a 5 string, so I'd say $50. I'd actually take it for $50 if it was local and the neck was straight.

Ah, thanks for the replies guys !

I just really wanted to get rid of it, but if that's roughly the price I'd get, I'd probably lose money just shipping it to someone
It was interesting to know that no-one seems to like squier, or that they just want rid of them (no offense to squier fans if there are any of them)

Who knows, if I can find info on how to fix the pickup and how to get it setup, maybe I can donate it to someone

As much as it should have sentimental value to me, I don't think I'd be sad to get rid of it, and even as a practice bass I've never really liked it, as i've always enjoyed other basses...

well, off to the hardware setup and repair forum I guess !

Actually, that's not it at all. Squiers are extremely popular. It's just that your particular instrument is, well, not in the best condition, and unfortunately, due to a little bit of brand name snobbery, Squiers don't have as good as resale value as a Fender to begin with.
