Need help - what musician(s) are poised for the next level?

Hey all - I'm back in college, trying to get a degree in music. I have an assignment in my "Business of Music" class where we have to find an up and comer and write about them - someone or a band that looks like they're poised for success (in whatever capacity 'success' might be - there's many forms of it). I'm an old fart, and don't know what's out there.

Anyone know of any or have any good ideas? The paper will be given to a sorta heavy hitter promoter in the business out here, so there's a one in a billion chance that he'll really dig them and pursue them. At very least, the band or musician will get a bit of exposure to the 40 or so people in my class. In either event, I'm guessing that whomever you might have in mind will appreciate the attention.

Any genre, and any reason that you have to think that their potential is greater then where they're at now would be just fine. However, if they're probably living fairly comfortably off of their music now, then they're probably not a great choice. It can be your band, too.

Many thanks in advance!

'Give up nothing' is an awesome local group out here in Oregon city. They play in the "hardcore" genre. Sounds more like screamo to me but whatever lol. I know of the band because the bassist is a good friend of mine.

Also 'return flight', a cover band that does A bunch of jazz and disco covers. They practice across the street from my house and I've gone to a couple of their concerts. They're all amazing musicians and awesome people.

Theres a young band called Black Tide that everyone says will be the next big metal band. Also, theres another new band called Black Veil Brides, who play that screamo style, and their lead singer will probably be the next big emo teen idol.
