Need Ideas how to Have Lyrics On Stage

Sign in to disble this ad
I need some good ideas how to have a set of lyrics attached to a mike boom or mike stand. This would most likely be A5-sized paper. Any ideas, suggestions, something discreet, and easy to set up and tear down as part of a jam session, for example?

Yes, I could use a conductor stand, but I'm looking for something more discreet... Thx, Kent

A black conductor stand (of which the audience would only see the black back) is going to be way more discreet than a bright white sheet of paper hanging off of a black mic stand!!!!

If you're really determined to hang the music off a mic stand, go to a place that sells computer stuff and check out the document holders that they sell for computer monitors. A bit of velcro and you should be able to secure it to a mic stand. Just ask for a document holder for your computer and they should know what you mean. Or, if you're broke, grab a chip clip thing (big plastic binder clip that you close the tops of the chip bags with) and zip tie it to the stand.

Since you referenced A5 paper, you're probably not over here in the states..... here the stores that carry the doc holders are places like Staples, Office Max/Depot, walmart may have one but it'll be cheap quality...not sure the names of the stores there .

You could put a piece of black paper behind the lyrics sheet if you do use the clip method so that the audience would just see the black piece of paper and not have any clue what was hanging there...

Get a black, high quality music stand, keep it rather low and flip it so the angle between the floor and the back of the stand is as small as possible. That way it looks smaller on the stage and doesn't hide too much.

My eye sight is as bad on dark stages as my lyrical memory. I write out set lists and lyric cheat-sheet notes on extra large size Manila folders (large lettering / felt-pen) and simply place-em on the stage somewhere in front of me.
There's no shame in that...

Get this headphone hanger. Bend a light piece of sheet metal to resemble the holder part of a music stand. Drill two holes on the headphone hanger and your newly made music stand. Spray it black and mount it on the head phone hanger. you now have a small mic stand mountable music stand. Also mount one of those clipboard clips on it as well.

Thanks for all the good ideas.

I go to jam sessions from time to time and they play songs I don't have memorized, but it would be good to sing those. At the same time I don't want to bring anything big with me to the jams, hence the request.
