I'd like a few friends I could relate to with the whole "I play bass" thing, but they;re hard to come by, any advice?

Sweet! I knew this was a good idea. Now please tell me you're somewhere in the southern hemisphere.

What's a "friend?" We bass players don't tend to have any...

I think you've come to the right place to start...

As far as where you are, there's got to be some sort of music scene nearby unless you're in a tiny town or something. Even small-ish towns will still have some music somewhere in it.

Ummmm there's a music scene alright but I strongly dislike it and most of the bass-players are the cliche' "band leader told me to play bass so I play the root notes with scooped mids" types....not that there's anything wrong with that....

the bass player is the nice guy who hangs around musicians ok

theres lots of friends on here you just need to contribute to the fraternity:

1.this is your guide to here and making lots of friends
2.buy lots of gear then ask questions on how to use it in the effects page
3.make a couple of basses then your shyte dont stink like on the luthers page
4.complain about guitards in the band management page
5.say interesting stuff on the off topic page, like i just saw a UFO
6. In the misc page you can complain about the wife

thats a good start

The problem with playing bass i find is that theres one per band. So I'm stuck talking with the drummer, and the guitards hang out together and play.

Bass players IRL i find know their stuff, but dont talk about it, they seem like normal people until you put a bass in there hands, mostly because know one wants to hear what we have to say lol We are solitary creatures, its just that nature that draws us to the bass.

We know it, we play it, we talk about something else. (IME IRL)

you also need to do a couple of things....

play better and know the songs better then the guitards, so when they stuff up in rehearsals you say, oh who played the wrong note then??? with a concerned look on your face etc

you must show dominance

and when they come up with a new song to play, you learn it first and then send out an email the next day saying ....yep ready with those new songs, just to rub it in more etc

this keep you on top of the pile and they might even start asking you if they played it right and ask for your opinion, then you become the king and everyone wants to be your friend

ok i almost forgot, make sure you invite lots of females to your gig from your facebook page, then casually say hi to them between sets but dont hang out to long, make sure the other band memebers know they are with you and its just your fans who want to be friends with you etc

you need to make out that everyone wants to be your friend, but you have no time to be theres ok ...i hope you got all that its very important

Also, your amp needs to be massive. Otherwise there's no point to any of it.

and learn learn lots of little stupid riffs so that between rehearsal songs you can show how cool you are and lead the band off into irrelevant jams, then say SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET

just act cool!!!!!!

I do all of these anyway. Mostly cause I'm a jerk, but sometimes...no that's pretty much it. Still no bass playing buddies though
