Need Some Advice

Sign in to disble this ad
I just answered an ad on CL for someone looking to put a blues band together...which amounts to a guitarist looking for a drummer and bassist. I can pretty much play 12 bar blues patterns and I have a good enough ear to at least hang with stuff I haven't heard/played, but I'm still pretty much a n00b and all I have to play though is a Fender Rumble 60, which is okay for practice and small gigs, but that's about it. I don't really know where I'm going here, I guess I'd just like some input on starting out...dos and don'ts, that sort of thing.

just be straight up with the guy about your skills. you don't really have to be that good to play passable blues

Yeah, I told the guy where I stand musicwise, but he might get back with me anyway...
Seriously, though, I have a decent ear and pick stuff up pretty quickly, so I'm not worried so much about that, playing blues is pretty basic, even if you're not Duck Dunn...I think I'm more concerned about not having good enough gear to gig with, if and when it comes to that. My Rumble thumps pretty good, but nowhere near enough to keep up with a real gig situation. I suppose it would fine run through a PA, but I guess I'll worry about that when I come to it. I dunno...just got butterflies, I guess. I hope the guy gets back with me though, I miss playing with other people...it's a blast!
