Need some help

I am thinking of getting my college degree in Music Education and the only kind of guitar focus you can have where I am going is either classical or jazz guitar. I know this is kind of random talking about guitar on a bass guitar website, but my question is do I have to have a jazz guitar in the sense of one of those hollowbody guitars or would any electric guitar be fine? Is it more of the style of music or is it an actual guitar style? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

When I was going to music school studying string bass , my guitarist friend ( music ed. jazz studies, etc. ) had both a Les Paul and one of those fat jazz guitars ( a Barney Kessel Model I believe) , either way he was a monster. In your case, see what the other guitarist dudes are using. Guitar is one of my second instruments and I use a PRS solid body guitar for some jazz and it sounds real fat.......good luck no matter what guitar you use.....get the degree in any case......

Wouldn't the college you're planning on going to be able to answer this question?.

+ 1. Your high school counselor and the music department you are going to attend are the best source of information on that subject.

If you intend to teach music in public schools, might give some thought to a marching band instrument as your second instrument as well.
