I need to make a synth patch with a sound similar to the pad that comes in at 0:20-21 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOp_u...eature=related

I'm using an Alesis Micron and I don't know where to start

You will definately need a good reverb that has a long running time. You will need delay with very little repeat, a short running time and little volume. The sound itself is a classic. I've found it in Rolands, Korgs and on Reaktor. There is a way to make it yourself, but remember it will not sound anywhere near as good as on Enjoy the silence. I would leave pulse waveforms alone, try different saws and/or triangle. Stack at least two oscillators on top of each other. I'm guessing one oscillator would be the base sound, while the second one possibly pitched '7th above the first. Leave the volume of the second below the volume of the first oscillator. If 7ths doesn't work, try to have the second a full range pitched upwards, meaning 12 notes. Your filter and resonance settings will be important. This sound has imo a bandpass or highpass filter, and definately some resonance. The sound is bright in its basis so I wouldn't cut off too much. Obviously your attack should be set at near zero.

The Micron is one little beast! Used to fiddle with the Ion, a beast in its own right. Sold it to buy a Virus C, different type of monster but not quite as thick as Alesis.

Anyways, try your question on Vintage Synth Explorer forum, those guys will get you the answer on plate.

Good luck.
