This guy went all out, except, I would use encapsulated fiberglass... and then cover it with drywall.

Pretty sweet! He'd have to get much bigger wedges, though, to be fully anechoic. We have an anechoic chamber at work that's good to about 50 Hz or so, and that's with 6 ft. wedges attached to the walls, ceilings, and floor. (You have to walk into the room on a grate.) The smaller wedges he's using will be good for high frequency attenuation, but not much more. He does have a pretty sweet door construction, though.

yes, I bought a home and hired an acoustical consultant to help me 'soundproof' my basement bonus room...
I was amazed at what it takes.

I just thought of something... Wouldn't it be easier to line the room with hollow panels with at least a partial vacuum inside? No fiberglass dust, anyway...

it wouldn't really be 'soundproof', It would just be very 'dead'. i.e. sound still might leak out, but it wouldn't reverberate around inside the room much at all.

Yeah, the 'room in a room' method would be easier, probably cheeper (unless you really DID go all out and used MLV) and probably take less space for soundproofing, but then you would still have to treat it. But i don't think that's what that guy is going for. He just wants a really dead room.
