need vocal coach for DFW church

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a question, but it's mainly for those familiar with the DFW area, but also I'd like the opinions of those who have thought about trying what I want to do...

Our worship band at church is really rocking, but the vocalists are the weak link. The are wonderful servants (my wife is one) but they are untrained as singers and their voices are airy and not pure...

I would like to bring in a vocal coach familiar with modern worship music to work with the singer both in a group, and individually. I would like to bring him or her in 2-4 times a year to "check-in" with the instructions that the singers were given, and to each time give them more ideas on things to work on for the next time...

First question, has anybody else ever tried regular clinics like this before? Are they effective?

second question, where would I find somebody who I can bring in. Do you know of somebody in the DFW area that would be perfect for what I describe??

thanks...

Clinics don't help unless the vocalists are going to keep practicing what they were told, and are give some sort of practice for upkeep.

Check out the seth riggs book and CD set, very good and works quickly.

You could check out a few of the NT grads such as Susan Hanlon

or an NT prof Rosana Eckert

My bass teacher told me to learn how to sing so I joined the local Barbershop Chorus (not quartet) Quartet's usually derive from chorus members. Once a week I rehearse and learn technique and singing some really difficult 4 part harmonies. This has not only helped my singing but my ear and from there my bass playing. There are 30,000 members of the Barbershop harmony society in this country and a chorus can be found almost anywhere.

The last part is that this is always fun. Great bunch of guys and tons of laughs. All my music friends have noticed a dramatic difference in my ability to sign. I am a 1.5 yrs into this now in the process of learning to write harmony parts and have started singing harmony parts impromptu during a jam.
