You already have a bass. |

So, I have to choose... carrots. They're cheaper at least.

Entertainment can definitely be part of the whole package (it always is ), but I also have to be able to justify it in terms of greater/better learning, skills enhancement, increased productivity - or something else equally important.
Getting a new computer just for playing games sounds like something a kid would do...

Good try! |

Good try! | Excuse me. The only thing he needs a computer for is to be on TalkBass. A 486 will work just fine for that. All that other crap is superfluous.

Good try! | But other than the things you listed a 486 is GREAT!
(A 486 is just about useless. I hope the guy was joking.)

(A 486 is just about useless. I hope the guy was joking.) | About 11 years ago when my daughter was three, we gave her our 486 for her Math Rabbit and other games, and we got a brand new Pentium. So she was at her computer playing some game, and looked over at me and said, "Dad, my computer is too slow." When I finally stopped laughing, I checked it out and, sure enogh, all the motion in the game was stop-and-go. We ended up giving her our Pentium and getting a newer one for ourselves. She has a MacBook Pro now (my wife drew her into the dark side).
