New Bass, New Strap

I am taking delivery of a new Musicman Stingray in a couple of days. I am looking around for a nice strap that will set off the looks of the bass well.
Thinking of this one. I have two other Couch straps and they look awesome!
Who are your go-to strap companies?

Comfort Strapp (two p's). Why mess with anything else?

Don't forget strap locks. Dunlop or Schaller, your choice:

Amazon.com: Dunlop Dual Design Straplok System, Nickel: Musical Instruments

Amazon.com: Schaller Guitar Strap Locks and Buttons (Pair), Nickel: Musical Instruments

I think I'll stick to the Ernie Ball Super Locks. Keep it in the family! I like how they work, and have yet to have one work its way free. Something I can not say about the Schallers. I'd like to extend my heartfelt thanks to them for causing my Ovation Magnum's D tuner to become bent.
I also have two other straps/basses with super locks.
Suppose I should mention that I'm getting a Stingray BFR roasted. This is why I think the Couch strap will match well.

If that strap works for you. Get it.

Personally, I like LM Eyeland Luxury Straps, Italia Leather Straps and Franklin Straps (in order of preference).

Nice... those things are beastly =D... I actually have a pair of straplocks (wish I could remember who makes them) that work great.... esentially I had to replace my strap buttons with them as they have them built in... a small piece of leather with another strap button is on it and just like a really good shirt button the oether end of the leather goeas right over it... in 10+ years of using these I've never had an issue with the straps coming off.... and I jump and run around and all kinds of things.. as far as a strap goes I'm always partial to the 3" leather straps by Levy... but am also considering http://www.music123.com/Accessories/...365910.product with my next bass purchase

I've got the "I am 8-bit" strap from Couch. The one you're looking at is pretty awesome too, though.

Jodi Head makes some interesting straps. I have yet to own one, but hear they're amazing. As for straplocks, stay away from Schallers. My friend put them on his MusicMan and they came loose and it smashed into the concrete ground.

I never liked the Schallers much either. They had a tendancy to come loose on every bass I've ever placed them on. Can't say the same for the Dunlops which have worked perfectly with consistency.

I'v got one of the Ernie Ball leather straps and it looks pretty sick, but as I am not particularly tall, I found it difficult to make it short enough

That is my other criterion. I'm a big guy. 6 foot tall guy with pretty big shoulders. When I adjust a strap for the bass to sit at waist level it will be at Dee-Dee Ramone playing level on most folks. The Couch straps are stellar in this respect.
I was almost thinking of picking up the blue and white "I am 8 bit" for my blue dawn Sterling, and migrating that basses current skullphone strap to the new Roasted Stingray.
But then, heck its a new bass! It deserves its own strap!
It also occurs to me. Do the BFRs come with a strap in the case?

Because the Levy M29 Ergonomic Bass Strap is better in every way.

From Levy's website:

It’s made from two layers of soft, supple leather and white stitching that look and feel sumptuous. Its 5"-wide foam-filled leather pad, shaped to match a player’s shoulder contours, is comfortable indeed. It wrapped over my shoulder and around the base of my neck, for a snug, almost tailored feel. Normally, with a more typical strap, I’m hoping for frequent breaks—but I used the Ergo comfortably for half of a marathon four-hour rehearsal before I began to notice my bass’s heft.

One catch: The pad’s luxuriously napped suede underside stuck to my shirt, making it difficult to adjust the instrument’s position without moving the pad from its ideal spot. A pad that moves more easily along the strap would help alleviate this problem. I could quickly adjust the Levy’s length thanks to a Velcro strip and metal clip. The strap isn’t nearly long enough for low-slung Dee Dee Ramone-style playing, but if you’re interested in comfort, you’re probably not living like Dee Dee, either.

The Comfort Strapp doesn't have these problems.

Whoever wrote that didn't spend enough time with the strap. Personally I wouldn't want a pad that slides easily along the strap. The velcro lockdown is one of its better features.

I own a Comfort Strapp and two Levy's M29's. I've used both. Can you say the same? The Levy's is far better. The leather breathes better than the Strapp's neoprene, the padded section is much wider, spreading the weight over a larger area, and the sueded underside of the pad stays in place on the shoulder better.

In addition, I have two collapsed disks in my lower cervical spine area (lower neck). It doesn't take long to feel the difference between a good strap and a better one. The Levy's enables me to get through 3-hour rehearsals and gigs with a G&L ASAT bass (strap button at 16th fret) and a G&L L-1505 5-string. And using one on a Jazz bass is like playing a nearly weightless instrument.

Jody Head makes some interesting LOOKING straps...I've had three of them, and each one was a fail;

- cardboard'ish leather that never (repeat - NEVER) broke in
- craptastic stitching quality throughout
- the last one lasted a maybe week and literally tore in two mid-song (I caught my bass, thankfully)

And I also agree about the Schallers' ability to back out of the bass's body for no good reason.

For my basses, it's ALL about Italia 4" straps and Dunlop strap locks.
