New Bass or Sitar

Sign in to disble this ad
So I found a Sitar at a local second hand music store for around $1200 (Australian). It's definately a quality instrument.
I have $1500, thus enabling me to make this purchase, HOWEVER; I've been saving for a new bass (the one I have now is pretty entry level) and if/when I do finally get one, it'd be pretty high end.

I'm having trouble deciding whether or not to buy the prestigious instrument that is the Sitar, over the bass. No, I've never played a Sitar and yes, I do have a genuine interest in Indian classical music and Ravi Shankar, Brian Jones and George Harisson are my heroe's for playing them. That is all.

Discuss.

even an enrty level bass has a soul find it and he will roar , she will moan , it will sing as long as you love your instrument.

if you have an interest and more importantly a passion for the kaleidoscopic melodious adventure that is clssical indian music, follow your heart , who knows what path it could lead you down

just follow the greater passion

then work on necessaty , and practicality

and there are afew sitar players about on the forums still i think , they might clue onto this

my thoughts

kind regards , good luck

i think i'm just at that point where my ability is far beyond the bass and i'd be able to really shine on something better

yes i know that space , can be really frustrating when you feel like your instrument is hindering your growth.

I've thought about trying out Sitar too, but from what I've read you'll have to invest some serious time into it. You don't just pick it up, and do it - the bass will be easier.
